The Low-Carb Diet Review
Although the Atkins Weight Loss Diet and
others may be considered low-carb diet plans, there is
another plan called the Go Diet which is a
low-carb, protein, and high-fiber diet. This weight loss
diet is mainly for people whose cholesterol levels are
high.
How does the
Go Diet work? Similar to the Atkins Diet plan, the
Go Diet consists of three phases. The first is a three-day
induction in which 50 grams of carbs can be consumed as well
as adhering to the meal plan listed. The second phase begins
with day four through day seven and encompasses a variety of
monounsaturated fats. The last phase, which
begins after the first week, is consistent maintenance
utilizing foods which are high in fiber including specific
foods listed.
The advantages of the Go Diet include not
having to count calories but carbs instead, tons of recipes
on their site, and believe it or not – exercise is not a
prerequisite.
Another advantage to this low-carb diet is that increased
fiber and a reduction in saturated fat is a healthy
combination.
Moreover, incorporating whole wheat and unprocessed foods is
also a plus.
The Go Diet menu may consist of the
following items in addition to consuming four of their diet
foods a day:
-
Breakfast allows for a protein
bar, shake, or pudding.
-
Lunch
would consist of a lettuce salad with olive oil and
vinegar dressing. In addition, you can add 40 to 60
calories of food such as cheese, nuts, bread, or
fruit.
-
Dinner
would consist of 6 ounces of protein which may
consist of chicken, beef, eggs, pork, or
fish.
Add a large portion of nonstarchy vegetables such
as broccoli.
-
As a
snack you can have a glass of skim milk or a cup of
nonfat yogurt.
While exercise is not a prerequisite for
this program, it is recommended and should be utilized when
engaged in any diet program.
Developed by J.L.
Rowlett, this program was born out of his need to
offer an alternative to conventional weight loss diet
plans. His
approach is changing one’s lifestyle and eating habits to
promote good health and weight loss.
