3 Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

Many kids would snack all day long if they could. After school visits to fast food restaurants is high on their list of places to eat. However, you can make healthy snack foods at home using a few ingredients that your kids will love. Here are just a few ideas to help you get started:

Mini Pizzas - Whole Wheat English Muffins, Low Fat Mozzarella Cheese, Homemade Pasta Sauce. Slice the English muffin in half. Top it with a light layer of pasta sauce, add a bit of mozzarella cheese and put the halves on a cookie sheet. Bake in oven until muffin is brown and cheese has melted. Believe it or not, this tastes even better than regular pizza.

Vegetable Dip - Cut up an assortment of vegetables into sticks such as carrots, cucumbers, and celery. Add broccoli flowers, string beans, and cauliflower hearts and place them on a tray. Take two containers of plain non-fat yogurt and add a tablespoon of lemon juice, a tablespoon of pure virgin olive oil, two teaspoons of dill, and a pinch of salt. Mix and put into a bowl in the center of the tray. When your kids come home from school, they can have a nutritious and delicious snack.

A Carrot and Apple Smoothie - Take one carrot and one apple, and cut them up into slices. Take a half cup of plain yogurt and add all ingredients in blender, then process until smooth.

Note: You can use a variety of fruits and vegetables when making any type of smoothie. You can also substitute non-fat milk in place of yogurt.
